Surprise K is a four-race series staged across the Central Savannah River Area beginning in 2027. Every event shares one defining rule: the distance is never disclosed before the start. Runners line up knowing only that the course falls somewhere between one and ten miles. There is no published route, no announced mileage, and no opportunity to pace against a known finish line. Course markers are the primary navigation method. Runners follow the physical markings and adapt in real time as the distance unfolds beneath them.

This series is built for runners who want more than a personal record on a known course. It rewards pace consistency, psychological resilience, and the ability to hold a steady effort when the finish line is a variable instead of a fact. Surprise K is organized by a small team of local runners and race directors based in the CSRA. We built this series because we wanted a race that challenged the mind as much as the legs. We wanted an event where the discipline of holding pace matters more than the comfort of knowing the distance.
